Dr. Lichtenstein is trained as both a dentist and an anesthesiologist.
Dr. Lee Lichtenstein is one of the extremely few dual-trained dentist anesthesiologists in the State of NJ who is Board Certified. Being a Board Certified Anesthesiologist* sets him apart from other dentists and even other sedation dentists who do not have his level of training, certification and over 20 years of experience.
Dr. Lee Lichtenstein successfully manages and treats individuals with a wide range of difficult issues who could not be cared for easily or comfortably in the traditional and conventional dental office setting.
What separates Dr. Lichtenstein from almost every other dentist is that he is a hospital residency trained anesthesiologist. Dr. Lichtenstein completed his anesthesia residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York (one of the cornerstones of Northwell Health in NY) and practiced part-time in the OR at LIJMC for 13 years. Anesthesiology was recognized as a specialty by the American Dental Association.

A native to New Jersey, Dr. Lichtenstein graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry where he received the Williams Pitt Mason Award for Outstanding Achievement. Dr. Lichtenstein graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, School of Dentistry, and then completed the General Practice Residency program at Middlesex General Hospital (Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center). He received his MBA from SUNY – The State University of New York.
Dr. Lichtenstein also completed the Dental Anesthesiology Residency Program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC) and practiced part-time in the Operating Room at LIJMC for nearly fourteen years. He provided anesthesia services for all types of patients in the hospital and for all varieties of dental and oral surgical procedures.
Dr. Lichtenstein created and developed his sedation dentistry office in Holmdel, NJ to incorporate the facilities of a hospital operating room in a friendly, pleasant, private office setting.
Dr. Lichtenstein is a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. Diplomates of the ADBA represent the most highly trained and trained and experienced anesthesia-provider dentists in the profession. They have demonstrated expertise in providing safe and cost-effective conscious sedation, deep sedation and general anesthesia for patients of all ages and medical complexity and for all types of dental, oral, maxillofacial and adjunctive surgical procedures. Diplomates provide services in both office-based and hospital or ambulatory operating room settings. In addition, all Diplomates of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology must meet specific re-certification criteria every six years in order to maintain their status.
He is also a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, a Fellow in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, as well as an Instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Besides working as a general dentist and anesthesiologist, Dr. Lichtenstein provides services to several organizations including extensive contribution to the New Jersey Dental Society of Anesthesiology (past President and in other executive positions). He served as the Treasurer for the national ASDA, for two decades, as well as participating in its special committees. He is also a lecturer for anesthesia review courses and has made presentations at national anesthesia conferences. Dr. Lichtenstein is a member of the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the Monmouth and Ocean Counties Dental Association.
